Welcome to Ricefields
A Great Place to Live!
Located in Pawleys Island,
SC beside the Waccamaw River, Ricefields nestles comfortably among ages old
moss-draped oaks, on land once occupied by historic rice
plantations. The land's history remains a part of our heritage.
Ricefields' natural setting is the soul of our community, and living with Mother Nature comes easily here.
Pleasures fall gently upon us, as we settle quietly into the slower pace of
South Carolina's lowcountry, in a place we call
"Home".

Wood Duck Family Moves into New
Ricefields Home
Richard and Barbara (Muffy) Cullerton own lot 235 in Ricefields. Richard has been erecting and managing wood duck boxes for over 25 years. He installed
three boxes along the south side of the old ricefield levee in January and
February, 2009. The box in the picture is located in a group of cypress trees near the boat dock.
He checked the box in March and noticed it showed signs of usage. Checking it again on April 19th, he found a wood duck hen on the nest.
Wood ducks normally lay an egg a day for 12 days and then incubate the eggs for 30 days. On or about the 42nd day, all eggs hatch at about the same time. The hen then calls the ducklings out of the box and they climb individually to the hole and "jump" out. They are then on their way and do not return to the box. Richard estimates the jump will occur the week of the 26th of April. If anyone is interested and patient, they are welcome to observe the box and possibly watch the "jump".
